As the top real estate agents in our field, we're often asked how it is that we came to be successful. Everyone wants to be successful, but sadly not everyone achieves it, mainly because they don't know how to. Figuring out what to do to be successful is tricky, especially considering that what commercial real estate lenders deem to be successful won't be the same thing that marine biologists consider successful. We've put a lot of thought into the matter. If you're struggling with the questions of how success is defined and how you can achieve it in your life, this article should help you.

The reason so many people flounder when it comes to achieving success is that they don't know what it is. How many franchises in Canada do you have to own before you can be considered a successful businessman? How many people's lives do you have to save before you can be a successful doctor? How much time do you have to spend teaching before you're a successful teacher? There is no concrete answer, because success is a subjective quality. There is no cap or threshold that you can aim for, no way to know if you have it.

So why, then, are some people successful and others not? Because success is defined in many different ways. The most important definition is the one that you subscribe to or the one that the majority of people in your profession (Toronto real estate agents, for example) subscribe to. If you feel that you need to sell ten houses to be successful, that's true. If your trade union only admits writers who have written three or more books, that's a definition of success too, but only if you believe it.

You can achieve success in your life by setting goals for yourself and working toward achieving them. In order to feel like you're successful, though, don't set yourself the goal of becoming Dennis Gartman straight out of high school. It's unrealistic and it doesn't recognize how many steps are in between where you are now and where you want to be. To measure your progress and allow yourself to be appropriately pleased with it, set smaller incremental goals that you can achieve in a few months or years and build up to your overall goal. Every step forward you make is a small taste of success.

In your quest to become successful, remember that hardly anyone who becomes successful does it alone. They recognize when they need help and they're not afraid to ask for it. So if you want to get in shape, don't be afraid to hire a personal trainer in Toronto, because ultimately it's you that does the work. They're just providing guidance, so the success is still yours.
